Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has decided to step down as an MP with immediate effect, triggering a by-election for his seat. In recent months, Boris Johnson has been the target of a parliamentary inquiry to determine whether he had misled the House of Commons when he said that all Covid rules had been respected.

It is very sad to leave Parliament at least for now," Johnson said in a statement. "I am being expelled by a small handful of people, without any evidence to back up their claims, and without the approval even of members of the Conservative Party and even less of the electorate at large.
