An unusual initiative to mark 75 years since the establishment of the State of Israel: The Israeli Embassy in Germany, in cooperation with the Jewish National Fund, initiated a special project to emphasize Israel's commitment to climate protection and to strengthen Israel's ties with the Green Party, a member of Germany's ruling coalition.

As part of this project, 75 trees will be planted throughout Germany, donated by the JNF by "green" MEPs. The trees will be planted in the constituencies of MPs. The first tree was planted jointly on Tuesday by Israel's ambassador to Germany, Ron Prosor, and Green Party chairman Omid Nouripour, near the offices of the Heinrich Böll Foundation, a political foundation close to the Green Party. Nouripour announced at the planting ceremony that the Green Party had decided as a counter-gesture to plant 75 trees in the "German State Forest" near Beersheba.

Ambassador Prosor emphasized that the trees are being planted today for future generations and that the friendship between Israel and Germany is taking root. "We pledge to stand together against climate challenges for future generations," Prosor added.

According to the latest opinion polls, the Greens, which is currently the third largest party in the Bundestag – Germany's lower parliament – is the only one of the three parties that are members of the current German government that has managed to maintain its electoral power and even gain some strength. However, due to the significant strength of the right-wing populist-nationalist Alternative for Germany party, which according to polls has become the second most popular party in the country, the Greens would be the fourth largest party in the Bundestag, if general elections were held in the country today.
