Scandinavian airline SAS has submitted an official request to operate direct flights from Ben Gurion Airport to Stockholm, Sweden, and Copenhagen, Denmark, starting in January 2024. This was about three weeks after the first report in Israel Hayom, according to which the company signed a codeshare agreement with Israel's El Al.
Another airline that has applied to operate direct flights to Israel is TUI, which is actually a kind of alliance of several airlines, all of which together have more than 100 planes. The airline flies to many destinations throughout Europe, including Germany, Britain, France and the Netherlands. The airline is supposed to operate direct flights from Israel as early as November, and may do so even earlier.

Another first publication came from Sri Lanka, after it emerged that Sri Lankan Airlines had expressed interest in operating direct flights to the country. If things do work out, we may see direct flights to one of the most beautiful and fascinating destinations in the world. In addition, Israeli airline Arkia is also advancing towards operating direct flights to the destination, and if there are no surprises – we may see direct flights by an Israeli airline to the beloved destination.
Direct flights to the destination are very short at the moment, and if they are indeed implemented, it will take about five hours, thanks to the agreement that allows Israeli airlines to fly over the skies of Saudi Arabia and Oman. Sri Lanka is considered a cheap destination with spectacular beaches and exceptional culinary.
