Both victims were taken to hospital with a life-threatening prognosis. This Sunday, around 18:40 p.m., a jet-ski accident on the Seine at the limit of Coudray-Montceaux in Essonne and Saint-Fargeau-Ponthierry in Seine-et-Marne mobilized an important rescue device. Seriously injured, one of the victims, a 39-year-old man, had to be helicoptered to the Pitié-Salpêtrière (Paris). The second man, aged 33, was taken by ambulance to the Centre hospitalier Sud francilien (CHSF) in Corbeil-Essonnes.
Both men "had fallen into the water" when they were taken into care. A gendarmerie investigation will have to determine under what conditions the accident occurred and whether the basic safety rules were respected.
A highly regulated practice
On the Seine, the practice of jet skiing is allowed but strictly regulated. When indulging in their passion, fans of these motorized watercraft must respect the zones provided for this purpose, as well as the speed limits. In case of control, the latter must also be able to provide the papers of the machine as well as to present the sticker of the Waterways of France (VNF) which gives the right to navigate on the river.
With the hot weather, accidents on the Seine are multiplying. On 10 June, Baraa, a 14-year-old girl, drowned in Draveil (Essonne). On the day of the tragedy, the girl was having fun with friends next to the rowing club when they decided to cool off by jumping into the water. Baraa was swept away by the current before being submerged.
