161 reserve aircrew members announced Tuesday evening that they would immediately stop volunteering for the reserves due to the continuation of legal legislation.
From the letter: "We, the undersigned, the 161 members of the operational heart of the Air Force Headquarters, hereby
announce the immediate cessation of our volunteering for reserve service. We are a group of reservists who have been at the forefront of thinking, planning and controlling Air Force operations in calm and combat for decades. We serve at Air Force Headquarters and outside it, including aircrewmen, controllers, UAV operators, intelligence officers and other officers. At the end of March 2023, the Knesset passed its first reading of the law "To Change the Composition of the Judicial Appointments Committee." On Tuesday, July 11, 2023, the Knesset passed its first reading of the law "Eliminating the Grounds of Reasonableness.
"The final approval of any of these laws, and their inclusion in the law books of the State of Israel, is a formal and short process, but one that will dramatically change the essence and face of the state, and it will turn it from a democracy to a dictatorship."
The letter comes after IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevy spoke to the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee this morning and claimed that "anyone who calls for non-reporting for reserve duty harms state security."
