A shooting sowed panic in a shopping center and in the streets of Marbella, southern Spain, Tuesday, July 18. Around 18 p.m., an individual, an automatic weapon in his hand, fired shots in broad daylight, reports the Spanish newspaper El Mundo. This same man would be involved in the start of a forest fire, a few kilometers away. No injuries were reported.

The scene of terror was filmed by witnesses who then posted the videos online. In the images, we see a man whose face is concealed by a cap and a black headscarf. Some French netizens have noted that he wears an Olympique Lyonnais jersey. With a haggard look, we see him running in all directions, while firing his weapon. The videos show that fortunately, the streets were relatively uncrowded at the time of the shooting.
According to the local Andalusian newspaper, Diario Sur, several individuals were involved in this "machine gun" attack. Witnesses reportedly said they heard three detonations that caused panic. The suspects are said to have travelled in a vehicle, one of them to have disembarked, a weapon in his hand. The perpetrators quickly fled in the same BMW vehicle.

The national police quickly intervened at the scene, where they questioned the witnesses, and then cordoned off the perimeter. Emergency services also made the trip, but no one was injured. An investigation was opened by the national police, without the identity of the perpetrator of the shooting having been disclosed.

About ten minutes later, the emergency services of 112-Andalusia rang again, this time to report the presence of smoke and flames in the neighborhood of Benavolá, a few kilometers from the site of the shooting, northwest of Marbella. According to El Mundo, which quotes the police, the suspects' vehicle was found on the edge of a forest, which created a fire.

The flames were brought under control in about thirty minutes thanks to the deployment of Infoca, the official Spanish fire suppression service. This event comes as the Spanish government warned, in the same day, against a risk of fire considered "very high", even "extreme" in the country, and especially on the island of La Palma, in the Canary archipelago, where firefighters have been fighting since Saturday against a major forest fire.
