A barrier of buoys has been deployed this month over the Rio Grande, which separates the border cities of Eagle Pass (Texas) and Piedad Negras (Coahuila) in order to curb the dense migratory flow in the area.
This measure is part of the multimillion-dollar operation 'Lone Star' with which Texas Governor Greg Abbot intends to secure a greater part of the US border with Mexico. The campaign has involved measures such as moving migrants to sanctuary cities and giving the National Guard the authority to make arrests.
Although concerns have been raised about the possible impact on the river and the risk of drowning, the Texas government insists that these policies are implemented to ensure the safety of its citizens.
