Residents of the Jordan Valley have recently experienced a significant spike in terrorist incidents on the traffic arteries around the village of Auja and the village's popular shopping complex on Route 90. Only about three and a half months ago, about half an hour's drive away, at the Hamra junction, the terrible shooting attack in which sisters Maya and Rina and their mother Lucy were killed, to the Dee family.

According to the data, as of the first half of 2023, there is a 330% increase from 2017 and a 169% increase from 2022 in incidents of stone, Molotov cocktails and burning tires.

Between 2017 and 2022, there were only 36 incidents, compared to 44 incidents in the first six months of 2023. According to month-by-month data, there is an increase of about 637% from 2017 and about 360% from 2022, alongside an increase of about 704% from 2017 and about 393% from 2022.

Residents note that if the pace of events is maintained as it is so far, by the end of 2023 there will be more PFA incidents for the current year than in all five previous years combined.

Rivka Hillel, a resident of the outskirts of Jericho for over 15 years and mother of six, experienced three stone-throwing incidents at her car that miraculously ended with no casualties, including a large stone hit inside a baby chair that was fortunately empty.

"This is our main axis and what has been happening here over the past six months has not been and cannot have been. From a pastoral road and a valley experience, we became a focal point for stone throwing and fear on the road. We sat down with the Jordan Valley brigade commander and presented him with the data, and apparently there is not enough deterrence if the events continue. We have a clear demand and it must trickle down to the military elements - we will not be Huwara 2. Jews will not feel fear on a central axis in the State of Israel."

As mentioned, one of the main arteries that crosses the village is Highway 90, where the village manages a large shopping center that includes food stores, furniture, toys, nurseries and more. Yoel Shiloh, secretary of the community, notes that the increase in carbon incidents coincided with an increase in the flow of Jewish buyers who come from the Jerusalem area for shopping, in an attempt to cope with the cost of living.

Stand by us - stop shopping in the village

The community is now calling on the general public to stand by them and stop purchasing products in the village. "We call on the general public to stop funding the activity in the village that endangers our lives every day," say residents of the Jordan Valley.

"It is inconceivable that the village leadership will not do anything against the rioters and terrorists while the village vendors enjoy the tens of thousands of Israelis who visit the place every month, support the businesses and are full partners in the local economy. For many years, the Jordan Valley was quiet and safe from events alongside a prosperous life in the economy and agriculture, and the village leadership must understand that the worrying data must disappear quickly if they want to continue the routine that characterized the valley."
