Last week Border Police fighters together with IDF forces thwarted the smuggling of weapons near the community of Ashdot Ya'akov, south of the Sea of Galilee. This smuggling was unusual compared to previous smuggling in the area. The weapons seized were transferred to the Israel Police Sabotage Unit for further treatment and to the Israel Security Agency for interrogation.
Last April, Jordanian MP Imad al-Adwan was arrested at Allenby Crossing with pistols, M-16 rifles and gold in his car. The Shin Bet later reported that since February last year, al-'Adwan had carried out 12 smuggling of various goods into the country, using his diplomatic passport.
