Two individuals were arrested this Thursday morning as part of an investigation in flagrance for a gang rape that would have been committed on the Champ-de-Mars on the night of Wednesday to Thursday. The investigations were entrusted to the 3rd regional directorate of the judicial police, Le Figaro learned from the Paris prosecutor's office, confirming information from Le Parisien.
According to the daily, the victim was alone around 1 a.m. in the park near the Eiffel Tower, when she was allegedly attacked by five individuals. Three of them are still wanted by law enforcement.
Not a first in the zone
Already in 2016, a young adult had been abused by four men in the middle of the Champ-de-Mars. In September 2022, a tourist was raped near the Eiffel Tower before being kidnapped. Last April, a young German woman was the victim of an attempted rape by a Moldovan man. More recently, two Brazilian sisters were sexually assaulted at the feet of the Iron Lady earlier this year.
Faced with the multiplication of these incidents, the right of the political spectrum was quick to react. In the columns of Le Parisien, Rachida Dati asks for the closure of the park at night. His colleague from the Republicans, Philippe Goujon, describes the Champ-de-Mars as a "lawless zone" and a "cut-throat". In order to secure the premises in view of the Olympic Games, a mobile police station was deployed last May.
