The sad series continues. A 37-year-old man, riding an electric scooter rue de la Barre, in Enghien-les-Bains, died in the night from Saturday to Sunday in a collision with a car. Without a helmet, the wearing of which is strongly recommended but not mandatory, the latter fell heavily on his head in this lane of a suburban neighborhood located less than a kilometer from the lake and the casino.
The emergency services quickly arrived at the scene of the accident could not do anything, the victim was declared dead on the spot. The driver of the vehicle, unharmed but very shocked, was transported to the hospital of Eaubonne, where he was still this Sunday.
Investigation opened for "manslaughter"
An investigation was opened by the Pontoise prosecutor's office for "manslaughter" to determine the exact circumstances of the accident. According to the first elements, however, the car is in order and the analyzes show at this stage no trace of toxicology in the motorist, unlike those of the victim, probably alcoholic at the time of the facts.
A tragedy that, in any case, is far from isolated. Only a few weeks ago, the hospitals of Paris (AP-HP) unveiled the results of a study warning about the consequences of scooter accidents "as severe as those involving motorcycles" and the number largely rising for four years, with a multiplication by 2.8 between January 1, 2019 and December 20, 2022. Last April, a public consultation organized by the mayor of Paris recorded the end of self-service scooters. These are expected to disappear completely from the sidewalks after August 31.
