The severe heat wave across the country will continue this evening (Thursday). The scorching weather in the mountains and inland, and steamy in the coastal strip, will prevail heavy to extreme heat loads in most areas of the country. Saturday will see temperatures drop, and early next week the heat will ease as temperatures continue to drop.

Good evening, the heat wave in Cleon, is expected to end this Sunday, while already this Saturday it is expected to weaken and we will begin to feel a relief in the temperatures. In fact, according to Meteo-Tech's forecast, on Sunday and Monday we will return to normal temperatures for the season.

Meanwhile, the Israel Meteorological Service publishes a preliminary review of the heat wave and determines that it is an exceptional heat wave in its duration. The service notes the magnitude of the wave and its exceptional impact on the entire Middle East, and notes that in the past two decades there has been an increase in exceptional heat waves due to global warming in the world, against this background we are expecting a continuation of such heat waves and their culture.

The heat wave is part of global warming

Towards the end of the heat wave, Dr. Amos Porat, Director of Climate Services at the Israel Meteorological Service, published a preliminary review of the heat wave that Klon experienced in Israel. As part of the review, Dr. Porat notes that "the heat wave is not yet over, but it seems that it is nearing its end and starting Saturday there will be a drop in temperatures and a return to values close to average."

The expert added, "The hot period lasted about two and a half weeks and high temperatures were measured and heavy to extreme heat loads prevailed. Although no abnormal temperature values were measured, the long duration of the hot episode is unusual."

Dr. Porat also reviews what is happening in our region at the same time as the heat wave in Israel, and notes that "parallel to the hot period in our region, in southern Europe and North Africa there is an extreme and prolonged heat wave with temperatures reaching 40 and even 45 degrees Celsius and more in Spain, Italy and Greece. The heat and dryness caused the spread of fires, as was evident in Greece (especially on the island of Rhodes). Our area is on the fringe of the Rum Ridge, so we got a prolonged warm period, but with temperatures that are not extreme."

However, Dr. Porat notes that "the current heat wave, both in our region and in southern Europe, like the multiple heat waves over the past two decades, are in line with the global warming trend, as we see it in our region as well. This is reflected in the higher frequency and duration of hot flashes."

The forecast in detail:

The evening will be warm and dry in the mountains and inland, hot and humid along the coast. The Mediterranean Sea will be comfortable to wavy with waves 40-80 centimeters high.

Tomorrow the severe heat wave will continue. There will be sweltering in the mountains and inland, and steamy in the coastal strip, heavy to extreme heat loads will prevail in most areas of the country. Heavy heat is expected in the mountains, coastal plain, lowlands, and northern Negev, heavy to extreme in the northern valleys, the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and the Arava. The Mediterranean Sea will be comfortable to wavy with waves 30-70 centimeters high.

On Saturday, the heat wave will weaken slightly, there will be a slight drop in temperatures, but will continue to be warmer than usual until many in the mountains and inland, and steamy in the coastal plain, will experience heavy to extreme heat loads in most areas of the country. The Mediterranean Sea will be wavy to high waves with waves 50-150 centimeters high, and beyond that the sea will be dangerous for swimming.
