Following an extradition request filed by the International Department of the State Prosecutor's Office against Olga Zvirov, who fled Israel after being convicted of causing the negligent death of a toddler who was forgotten in a shuttle car, Zvirov was extradited to Israel on Wednesday morning to continue the criminal proceedings. At the same time, the driver of the van in which the toddler was forgotten, Tali Dashkov, was sentenced to a year in prison.

In 2014, after her conviction and before the sentencing hearing, Zvirov fled to Ukraine, her country of citizenship, and has not returned since. Over the years, many attempts have been made to return her to Israel in order to continue conducting criminal proceedings, but because she is a Ukrainian citizen, she could not be extradited. Almost a decade later, on December 23, 12, the State of Israel learned that Zbirov had arrived in Slovakia, and after the International Department filed a request for her temporary detention, Zvirov was arrested in Slovakia on the same day.

Subsequently, the International Department filed a formal extradition request, at which point the legal proceedings for Zvirov's extradition to Israel began, which were completed upon her landing in Israel. Zvirov has now been remanded in custody at the Petah Tikva Magistrate's Court.

The verdict stated: "The defendant cannot absolve herself of any responsibility on the pretext that she was asked by her boss to run to kindergarten. And if she did do so, then in her hat as the toddler's caregiver she had to take her in and make sure she arrived safely at kindergarten." Following the conviction, she was referred for a report by the probation service, and at a hearing of the arguments for the sentence, it emerged that Zvirov had fled abroad when she left the country after her conviction and did not return.

The criminal case was handled by Attorney Einat Benita of the Central District Attorney's Office. The extradition case was handled by Attorney Jenny Kramaniov of the International Department of the State Attorney's Office. Her arrest was coordinated and carried out in cooperation with the Operational Coordination Department of the Israel Police Intelligence Division and the Interpol squad at the national headquarters.
