U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations General Assembly Nikki Haley responded Friday to comments made to Israel Hayom by Republican candidate and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, according to which the United States should not send troops to Israel's aid in the event of a war with Iran.
Haley said: "Vivak must have missed the fact that the terrorist and fanatical regime in Iran regularly calls 'death to America.' If he doesn't see Iran's nuclear program as a threat to America's security, then he should find his place alongside Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the other members of the Unit and stay away from the White House."
Haley was not alone in responding to remarks, which are considered highly unusual in the Republican Party, which tends to support Israel and adhere to military aid to the Jewish state. Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie also responded by describing Ramaswamy's modus operandi: "He says something, he's criticized from all sides, and then he says, 'I didn't say that, I meant it.'"
Former Vice President Mike Pence also addressed Ramaswamy's remarks, saying, "He's just wrong. He is wrong in analyzing foreign policy. He is wrong about America's place as a leader in the world. He is also wrong about the economy and how to move the country forward."
Ramswami said he opposed the use of American force against Iran. In a special interview with Israel Hayom, he said that in fact this is a war that "does not belong" to the United States.
The conversation took place Monday at his campaign headquarters in Columbus, Ohio. Ramswami stressed that he strongly opposes Iran possessing nuclear capability. Moreover, he believes that the missiles Iran is developing directly endanger the United States. Still, in his opinion, it is Israel that will have to use military force.
