Police on Monday night arrested a 35-year-old emergency doctor at a hospital in central Israel who imported vials containing a suspected rape drug. The investigation was opened after the shipment ordered by the doctor, a resident of Tel Aviv, was seized by the Jaffa Station and Customs Police. Officers raided the suspect's home, where they found additional bottles suspected of containing the rape drug and other suspected drugs, such as ecstasy, marijuana, and ketamine. The doctor was arrested and interrogated, and a short time ago he was brought to a hearing to extend his detention at the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court.
At the hearing, the police chief said: "This is a doctor who unfortunately imports drugs and uses them. He also claims not for personal consumption, of course. The investigation began when drugs intended for the suspect arrived from abroad and an initial examination by customs revealed that it was a rape drug."
At the end of the hearing, the judge ordered the suspect released to house arrest under restrictive conditions until a hearing in about a week.
