Following the meeting between billionaire Elon Musk and Prime Minister Netanyahu on Monday, there are speculations that Musk is expected to accede to Netanyahu's request and establish an artificial intelligence development center in Israel.
Netanyahu chose to begin his visit to the United States around the UN General Assembly with a quick visit to Silicon Valley, centered on his meeting with Musk. Netanyahu presented the advancement of artificial intelligence as the main reason for the meeting of the two, who held about half an hour of public conversation in which they dealt with the risks involved. Those around Netanyahu attributed great importance to the meeting with Musk, at least as much as the prime minister is expected to do with the leaders of the countries later this week. Netanyahu believes that artificial intelligence is the future and that Israel needs to establish itself at the forefront of this industry.
Israel as a Global AI Power
Practically, Netanyahu wants Musk to establish a research and development center in Israel that he operates in Silicon Valley. Therefore, he hopes to establish an "artificial intelligence campus" in Israel, probably in Be'er Sheva, like the "cyber campus" he established last decade, which has indeed contributed greatly to Israel's position as a world power.
Netanyahu said yesterday at the meeting that he will announce within a few months a new policy in the age of artificial intelligence.
Musk told Netanyahu, "In the positive scenario, the age of artificial intelligence will be paradise. People won't have to work. Life will be calm. Robots will do anything."
