Auctions of items from the homes of deceased or bankrupt people are a constant attraction for second-hand bargain hunters – but one woman didn't expect the "bargain" she received for a ridiculous half-dollar price. We used ChatGPT to gather the details.
The woman in question told the Reddit forum site about a small jewelry box she purchased at such a property sale, the official price of which was one dollar, and on that "fateful" weekend, when a 50% discount was offered on all items, she paid only 50 cents for it. But when she opened the box, she discovered that she had received much more for that price than she could have imagined: a pair of pearl earrings with 14 carats of gold.
14K Gold Pearl Earrings for $0.50! They were in the $1.00 jewelry box at an estate sale and half-priced on Sunday
"I'm always looking for jewelry," the user explained in the comments on the post. "Even if they were fake, 50 cents for a pair of nice-looking earrings like that would be a reasonable price for me." However, she added that their brilliance, as well as markings she found on the back, proved it was the real thing. To a user who asked what their price was, assuming it was the real thing, she replied that from her examination they cost between $60 and $100. Websites that reported the story found that the price range is even wider, reaching up to $300.
She also said that she confirmed to the sellers at the scene that the earrings came with the box, and that they were real – she said one of them put them in her mouth to check it.
Commenters on the post praised the find, and another reported a similar purchase of a pair of pearl earrings for half a dollar.
