US President Joe Biden is expected to deliver a speech to the nation on Thursday in which he will warn that "American democracy is in danger" due to former President Donald Trump's apparent candidacy.
Biden will deliver the speech at the arts center in Tampa, Arizona — a state chosen not by chance: The Democratic president wants to honor the legacy of the late Republican Senator John McCain, who was considered his friend despite their political rivalry.

On top of that, Arizona is also the state where Trump alleged election fraud in 2020 — a claim that resonated with his supporters.
According to CNN, Biden is expected to focus on the importance of the U.S. Constitution to fortifying democracy and the need to maintain the separation of powers. "Something dangerous is happening in America. There is an extremist movement here that does not share with us the basic beliefs of our democracy. This is the MAGA movement.
"Defending democracy" is a central part of Biden's presidential campaign, and the date of his speech was deliberately set after the Republican debate to influence the media agenda and highlight the incumbent president at a time when the Republican Party occupies most of the attention.
