The storm of gender segregation continues: and this time, in Jerusalem's Ir Ganim Kiryat Menachem neighborhood, they published a screening designated on Chol Hamoed for ultra-Orthodox women and girls. Traditionally, every holiday, screenings are held by women who want only women to watch them. But things did not go quietly.

Last Thursday, a group of men entered the theater where the screening was supposed to take place and blew it up. The girls and women were forced to go home in disappointment. "The contract has been reopened," said those who broke into the theater and prevented the screening from taking place. We now reveal here some of the correspondence that led to the massive explosion.

Neighbors who vehemently opposed the screening in segregation versus those who fought for it to take place. "The neighborhood is pluralistic, so I chose to live there, there are not and will not be gender-segregated events, not even by recommendation alone," wrote one neighbor. "We can't let that happen, it's a slippery slope. I recommend every man in this city to come watch the movie tomorrow," wrote another neighbor.

Along with the opposition to the event, there were also comments defending it: "We are a mixed neighborhood, with different types of populations and we have to respect them too," wrote one neighbor. Another neighbor added: "It's very interesting how sensitive you are to the law. From what I know, it is forbidden to paralyze lives, call for refusal in the IDF and block roads."

MK Erez Malul, of the Shas party, responded to the incident by saying: "Last night's incident, in which a handful of thuggish men with a 'liberal' appearance, proved that they are bad people who are heroes for little girls and girls, and thwarted a holiday event for them at the Ganim community administration in Jerusalem, is unacceptable, and a direct continuation of the barbaric behavior at closing prayers in Tel Aviv. It's sad to see the evil and satanism."
