Only last week was the approval given that Israelis will enter the United States in about two months without a visa, and in the meantime, an indictment was filed in court in the process of arresting a US resident who arrived in Israel with a suitcase containing 12 kilograms of a dangerous cannabis drug - after he passed through the green lane at customs and was detained for a routine inspection, during which the drugs were discovered.

According to the indictment filed by the Central District Prosecution Unit, the defendant is Marcus Walsh, 31, who contacted others to import dangerous drugs from the United States to Israel. Before the flight, he received $2,100 reimbursed for the flight and other expenses. Also, brief him on where to pick up his suitcase, where to go - and for the couriers he will receive $5,000.

About a week ago, he boarded a Delta flight from New York to Israel, with no less than 12 kilograms of cannabis in his suitcase. When he landed in Israel, everything went smoothly - and after passport control he collected his suitcase and went through the green lane. During the passage along this route, one of the customs officers asked him to pass the suitcase through a mirror, and when suspicious material was observed, the suitcase was taken for examination during which 27 packages of cannabis were discovered.

As a result, Walsh was arrested, and on Sunday he was indicted for conspiracy to commit a crime and importing drugs into Israel, while a request was filed for remand until the end of the proceedings. The defendant himself stated that he was indeed supposed to transfer the suitcase to someone else, but denied knowing that there were drugs in it.

"The defendant's conduct poses a danger to the welfare of the public, which by his actions spreads the scourge of drugs in society and leads to the expansion of the circle of drugs in exchange for money," wrote attorney Superintendent Tal Nisanov in the arrest request.
