A Border Police officer was accused of pointing the weapon at his fellow officer, and even pulled the trigger while mentioning a disaster that occurred under similar circumstances in the police.

The defendant, A.N., served until recently in the Border Police. At the same time, the complainant was also serving in the unit. The indictment recently filed by the Police Investigation Department through attorney Sivan Duk alleges that the two officers shared a living room in the unit, and that on July 19 of this year, at around 19:00 P.M., while the two were in the room, a third officer placed his Glock pistol, magazines, an M16 rifle and other items on the top shelf of the closet. He asked A.A. to keep an eye on the weapons before leaving the room.

At that point, according to the indictment, A.N. went to the closet, took out the gun, cocked it and pointed the barrel toward the ceiling. A.A., who was asked by the policeman to keep his weapon, urged him to return the weapon to the closet. However, in response, A.N. pointed the gun at A.A.'s chest, approached him, pulled the trigger of the gun and asked him if he knew of the death of Officer "Avi" from the unit, caused by playing with a weapon.

This is the case of the death of the late policeman Avi Gronov in 2015 as a result of playing with a weapon. According to the indictment filed at the time against Gilad Wiseman, a former Border Police soldier, Gronow Wiseman and three other policemen were in a living room at the Border Police base in Yad Mordechai and had a friendly conversation while Wiseman cleaned his Jericho pistol. During the conversation, Wisman pointed the weapon in Gronov's direction, making a provocative statement at him, cocked the weapon and fired. As a result of the shooting, Gronov was killed. For that case, the Beersheba District Court sentenced Wiseman to nine months in prison after he pleaded guilty as part of a plea bargain to causing Gronov's death by negligence.

Returning to the present case, the indictment continues to recount those moments and claims that the policeman who was pointed at A.N.'s gun replied in the affirmative that he was familiar with that unfortunate affair. The defendant then allegedly "smirked and put the gun back in the closet." Some time later, the threatened policeman filed a complaint against his friend, and the indictment alleges that he suffered emotional reactions as a result of the defendant's actions, following which he required the treatment and accompaniment of a mental health officer in the unit.

The weapon was aimed at him while making a provocative statement. Border Police soldier Avi Gronov, z"l,

The indictment attributes to A.N. offenses of recklessness and negligence and threats. In his aforementioned actions, the indictment alleges, "the defendant threatened to harm a person in a reckless or negligent manner while holding a firearm that could endanger human life or cause him injury."

In the past, the Police Investigation Department criticized the lenient treatment of police officers caught playing with weapons. In light of the proliferation of cases, the PIU clarified that such acts would be dealt with at the criminal level. "Cops play with guns like kids excited about a new iPhone. If the commanders had stopped these infantile games, there would have been fewer funerals," a senior PIU official previously told Israel Hayom.
