After the disaster in Ein Gedi, in which 8-year-old Yehuda Levy was killed in a rockslide, the Nature and Parks Authority announced today (Sunday) that Nahal David has fully opened, and is opening additional trails in the Ein Gedi Nature Reserve.

According to the announcement, the decision was made in coordination with the Israel Police Southern District and after receiving a geological opinion. The opening will take place starting this Monday, October 02, 10 at 23:08 by reservation only.
Last August, a rockslide unexpectedly struck two families hiking in Nahal David, claiming the life of 8-year-old Yehuda Levy and injuring six others who were evacuated to Soroka, Sheba and Hadassah Mount Scopus hospitals for treatment. The young boy is a resident of Hemdat in the Jordan Valley, and his mother and sister were among those injured in the disaster.

The new trails that will be opened to the public: The Tzafit Trail Ma'ale Ein Gedi and Ma'ale Yishai. Nahal David from the first waterfall to the dry canyon.
The trails that open at Nahal David join the trails that have already opened in the reserve: Section A - from the entrance to Nahal David to the first waterfall. Section B - from Tel Goren to Ein Gedi Spring. The ancient synagogue is open. Nahal Arugot - You can visit the route from the entrance of Nahal Arugot on the short route to the lower pools of Nahal Arugot.
The areas that will remain closed to the public at this stage and until a geological opinion is completed are: Nahal Arugot, closed from the lower pools to the upper pools, including the hidden waterfall from Ma'aleh Bnei Moshavim and up to Essenes.
