In 2022, Mexico asked Israel for the extradition of Andreas Roemer Slomiansky, a Mexican citizen wanted by it for committing rape offenses against several women in Mexico City. The International Department of the State Attorney's Office filed a petition with the Jerusalem District Court to declare him extraditable to Mexico for the rape offenses attributed to him in the extradition request, as well as a request for his detention pending a final decision on the extradition petition.

Slomiansky, who is Jewish, once served as Mexico's ambassador to UNESCO. He has received praise from Israel in the past and has been called "brave" for refusing to support a UNESCO proposal stating that there is no connection between the Jewish people and the Temple Mount and the Western Wall. Later, he was even honored by the Ramat Gan municipality, which named the street after him.
