Madness in the US legislature: Rebel Republican representatives have launched a particularly rare impeachment proceedings against House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who leads the Republican majority in the assembly. Florida State Representative Matt Gates launched the proceedings after being outraged by McCarthy's support for approving the budget and preventing a government shutdown.
In a high-profile debate between the two in the House chamber, McCarthy called his opponent within the party and told him, "Go ahead, do it," to which Gates replied, "I just did." No Speaker of the House of Representatives has ever been impeached by a vote initiated by members of his own party in American history.
