Highlights: Haysville, Kansas, offers $15,000 to those willing to launch three types of eateries in its districts. The grant is spread over a period of three years, and the restaurant owner must pay taxes as required, issue all building permits and comply with all the stipulations specified in the tenders. Until recently, the offer was only $5,000, but the city decided to triple the amount of the grant – which will be given in cash and tax refunds – after not many penned the bargain.

A coffee shop, steakhouse and fast-food restaurant: The municipality of Haysville, Kansas, is so desperate for new restaurants that it offers a substantial sum to those willing to build eateries in its districts

It is known that opening a restaurant is not a cheap business, which often turns out to be a failed financial investment that causes those behind it heavy losses. This will be evidenced by many projects that close a few years (or less) after their opening. But the coin (and the steak, and the pancakes) have two sides – and that's where a small city in the US comes in, willing to pay determined culinary entrepreneurs a lot of money on condition that they build their next restaurant there.

It turns out that Haysville, Kansas, with only about 11,000 residents, is so desperate for new restaurants that it offers no less than $15,000 to those willing to launch three types of eateries in its districts: a drive-thru café that serves sandwiches and pastries and also includes a stage for performances by local bands; Full-service family restaurant/steakhouse, offering lunch and dinner; and a fast-food restaurant that will be open for on-site seating and takeaway. Until recently, the offer was only $5,000, but the city decided to triple the amount of the grant – which will be given in cash and tax refunds – after not many (or rather, anyone) penned the bargain.

Steakhouse or café,

"A little help and support from the city helps businesses just starting out," Danielle Gabor, the city's director of the effort, told the Wichita Eagle, a newspaper published in the area. "The reason we're doing this is because our residents have expressed a lot of interest in opening these businesses." Indeed, although Haisville already has a number of eateries, such as this Mexican restaurant, it turns out that this is not enough for the city's growing – and hungry – community. "We do have a few places, but for the number of our residents we need more," Gabor concluded.

Considering accepting the improved offer? It is important to take into account that receiving the money involves a number of conditions, in order to prevent people with dubious interests from opening the restaurant only to close it in a short time and run away with the cash. In fact, the grant is spread over a period of three years, and the restaurant owner must pay taxes as required, issue all building permits and comply with all the stipulations specified in the tenders. About? Promise we might pop in to visit and have a bite.
