In light of the recent recurrence of attacks on symbols and clerics, including Muslims (hijab, mosques, cemeteries) and Christians (spitting, churches), MK Ahmad Tibi and the Hadash-Ta'al faction proposed a bill to double punishment for harming religious symbols of the three religions: Islam, Christianity and Judaism.

The explanatory notes to the proposal stated: "Following a wave of attacks on holy sites, including mosques and Muslim cemeteries, acts that threaten public order, personal security and the status of various places of religion. The purpose of the law is to protect holy houses for all religions, including mosques, khailwats, synagogues and churches, by doubling the punishment, which is intended to increase the deterrence of criminals who violate the purity of a place of worship or cemetery and desecrate them."

MK Ahmad Tibi, who initiated the law, said: "For years we have witnessed unhindered damage to mosques and property. There are no arrests and no enforcement. This is accepting attacks and violence that cannot be tolerated, and we must stop and send a more serious message to such hate crimes in general, and to price-tag acts in particular."
