The case may seem microcosmic, in view of the human drama caused by the earthquake a month ago in Morocco. But in diplomacy symbols count, and much has been said about Rabat's dry refusal of Paris' offer of help. The episode annoyed the Élysée to the highest degree. Not the silence of King Mohamed VI for any response to Emmanuel Macron's proposals, no. But everything that was then said and written – or rather embroidered, to hear the interested parties – on the Franco-Moroccan relationship. Far from the polar cold against a backdrop of Franco-Algerian rapprochement, this "relationship is structurally solid, dense, good and friendly," reassures the Elysee.
