Dozens of young people who participated in the nature party attacked by the terrorists in the surprise attack on Israel were brought to evacuate near the Gilat junction in order to return them to their homes safely. Many parents also arrived and emotional reunions took place alongside the police checkpoint.
Menachem Shelly, a father of a son who attended the party and was evacuated, said: "My son told me he got on a bus on the way here. He's safe and sound, I'm so relieved." Menachem almost burst into tears when he said: "I've already thought about the worst. I can't believe all this happened. It's a huge omission."

Ofek, a young man who participated in the party and arrived at the Sderot police station, said: "They fired in all directions, it was a war zone. I didn't think I'd get out of it. I didn't have a phone and I couldn't tell anyone what was going on with me." Ofek called his parents and tearfully told them where he was and how he was doing. In the background, police clashed with parents who demanded to cross the checkpoint to rescue their children.
Yael, a mother of a 23-year-old daughter, said: "My daughter hid in an orchard near the party area. She was rescued and told me that the military put them on the same bus with the terrorists who were caught, she was hysterical. It's just atrocious."
