Permitted for publication: The commander of the Nahal Brigade, Colonel Jonathan Steinberg, was killed today (Saturday) in battle near Kerem Shalom, after a surprise attack by Hamas.
Colonel Steinberg, 42, from Kibbutz Shomaria, was on his way to help in the exchange of fire his subordinates had with terrorists. On his way there, he encountered a terrorist near Kibbutz Kerem Shalom and was killed in the exchange of fire.

More than 250 Israelis were murdered today by Hamas terrorists. Five of the victims were hit by rockets fired by the terrorist organization. Most of the names of the victims were not allowed to be published.
One kibbutz chief told the Soroka Hospital yard that he himself was shot and held the safe room door for many hours: "At first there were two, three who were shooting and we could have overcome them. Eight of us left the alert squad, and suddenly dozens came on vans, with anti-tank missiles and mags, and fired. They burned down the entire kibbutz, burned houses with people inside. They burned cars."
