Four days after Hamas' surprise attack, the Israeli army stepped up its bombardment of the Gaza Strip, where the humanitarian situation is becoming alarming. According to Hamas' Health Ministry, Israeli fire killed 830 people and wounded 4,300. "When it's quiet, there's an explosion every <> minutes," says one resident, "otherwise it's every two or three minutes." Late Tuesday afternoon, the Israeli navy targeted the Gaza port and fighter jets targeted the al-Daraj neighborhood, a densely populated area of the city. A few hours later, Hamas fired dozens of rockets at the town of Ashqelon, located a few kilometers north of the Gaza Strip. An Israeli woman was injured. Throughout the day, sirens sounded in other Israeli cities in the region.
Abu Obeida, the spokesman for the Ezzeddine al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas' military wing, had warned of the attack on the Gaza Strip.
