Foreign Minister Eli Cohen spoke Sunday evening with Vatican Foreign Minister Paul Gallagher after they expressed concern for the citizens of Gaza. In their conversation, Foreign Minister Cohen made it clear that Israel has every right to defend itself against Hamas attacks and that the Vatican must unequivocally condemn the murderous terrorism directed against Israeli citizens.
The minister stressed that Israel is a democracy and a state that operates according to international law, and will continue to act in the future, but will not hesitate to defend its citizens from murderous terrorist organizations such as Hamas.

"There is no room for far-fetched comparisons. Hamas is a worse terrorist organization than ISIS, which comes to harm innocent civilians, while Israel is a democracy that tries to protect its citizens from it," Cohen said, adding: "We expect the Vatican to issue an unequivocal and clear condemnation of the murderous terrorist acts of Hamas terrorists who harmed children, women and the elderly just by virtue of being Jews and Israelis. It is inconceivable that an announcement would be issued expressing concern, primarily, for the citizens of Gaza when Israel buries 1,300 murdered. Israel is in a war that has been forced upon it and we will continue to fight Hamas until it no longer poses a threat to Israeli citizens. We are doing this for the benefit of the whole world."
Freezing of security aid to Colombia
In addition, Israel is halting its security aid to Colombia in light of President Gustavo Petro's hostile remarks against the State of Israel last week.
In a conversation with Colombia's ambassador to Israel, Margarita Menjerez, it was made clear to her that the president's remarks were received with astonishment in the face of the barbaric terrorist attack by Hamas terrorists and that Israel condemns his remarks.
