The façade of a well-known Jewish deli in New York City called 2nd Ave Deli was vandalized by a swastika painting as part of an antisemitic attack after the business expressed its unwavering support for Israel amid an iron sword war.

Jeremy Lovehl, the owner of the deli, told The New York Post on Tuesday: "We saw it (swastika) this morning. It's just terrible, and it saddens me. It's sad that in 2023 people feel the need to say they hate Jews so openly. The hatred towards Jews is now overwhelming (because of the war), and people feel safer expressing themselves in this way."

In its nearly 80-year history, this is the first time that Levohl's award-winning culinary institution, which opened its doors in 1954 and serves classic Jewish dishes such as chopped liver, gefilte fish, cholent, kishek and crepes soup alongside iconic corned beef and brisket sandwiches, has come under anti-Semitic attack. However, Lovehl stressed that he had "always prepared for this to happen."

Instead of "folding," Beuhl decided to commemorate the horrific act on the Instagram page of the famous deli - which even boasts its own Wikipedia page. The owner took a photo of the vandalized wall, posted it online and wrote: "Out of our restaurant today. Thank you for reminding us that we are on the right side of history. It's not just a struggle for land. This is not just a struggle for Israel. This is not just the struggle of all the Jews in the world. It's a struggle of good against evil."

Since the beginning of the war, 2nd Avenue Deli has been careful to publish posts supporting Israel, and last Friday (October 13), the deli donated all of its income from that day to the Israeli Union and Rescue organization.
