The Pentagon is in an effort to deploy more than 10 air defense systems in the Middle East to protect U.S. forces in Iraq, Syria, Kuwait, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, among others. So far, according to the report, the Americans have persuaded Israel to wait until the preparations are complete, apparently by the end of this week.

According to US officials, Israel also considers its efforts to provide humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza, as well as diplomatic efforts to free more hostages from Hamas captivity. However, the main consideration (for postponement) is the threat to American forces from various armed militias, which may materialize once the maneuvers in Gaza begin.
