According to the Russian RIA news agency, Hamas was joined by the deputy head of Hamas' political bureau, Musa Abu Marzouq, and Bassem Naim, a member of the Hamas leadership in Gaza. They met with Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that about 1,000 Russian citizens wanted to be evacuated from the Gaza Strip. In her daily campaign, Zakharova called the deployment of U.S. air defense systems in the Middle East a "provocation."
According to Hamas' announcement, the delegation discussed Israel's attacks in the Gaza Strip and ways to stop the activities "supported by the United States and the West." The delegation also praised "the position of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russia's diplomatic efforts," and stressed "the need for the international community to bear responsibility for the crime committed by the Zionist government." It added that Bogdanov expressed his country's position "supporting the rights of the Palestinian people and reviewed his country's efforts with the relevant parties regarding a ceasefire and the opening of the crossings and the entry of humanitarian aid."
The UN General Assembly will hold an emergency session to discuss the war between Israel and Hamas. Yesterday, Russia and China vetoed a proposed U.S. Security Council resolution condemning Hamas' "monstrous terrorist attack," stressing Israel's right to self-defense, and calling for the release of the hostages and a wave of aid to civilians.
