The French left condemned in the strongest terms the intensification of the bombing of Gaza in the evening and night of Friday to Saturday, while the Israeli army says it has taken a further step in the war it is waging against Hamas.

The leader of France Insoumise Jean-Luc Mélenchon wrote last night on Twitter in reaction to the intense bombing of the evening: "A mass massacre is underway in Gaza. And the powers refuse to impose the ceasefire. This moment in history is forever shameful for the criminals who commit it, for those who support them unconditionally, for those who let it happen, and for those who are afraid to protest.

The president of the LFI group in the National Assembly, Mathilde Panot, went so far as to speak of "ethnic cleansing": "The worst is underway in Gaza. Ethnic cleansing by criminals."
