In the three weeks since the start of the Iron Sword War, Russian media have provided an ongoing jumble of disinformation, conspiracy theories and anti-Semitic monologues. Now, while the ground fighting in the Gaza Strip has been raging for two days, the Russian media is presenting an unplanned comic pause.

The state-owned TV channel, Russia 24, broadcast a current affairs strip that dealt extensively with the situation in Gaza, and alongside a quote from senior Hamas official Ali Baraka outside the Gaza Strip, a picture of former Prime Minister and Defense Minister Ehud Barak was displayed. A Hamas spokesman was nicknamed "Ali Barak" and the slide with the quote and picture was shown for nearly half a minute.

The channel did not issue any clarification or apology for the mistake, and sharp-eyed users were quick to mock the television network. Some web users suggested that the mistake was deliberate and intended to portray Israel in a ridiculous light, while others believe that it is indeed a strange blunder. "There seems to be no order in the propaganda folders they hold there," wrote one Ukrainian user.

Meanwhile, Ramzan Kardirov, the ruler of Chechnya and Russian President Putin's right-hand man, was interviewed yesterday about the situation in Gaza and told local media that what Israel is doing in Gaza "resembles or even transcends what Nazi Germany did. The Zionist entity is a fascist entity."
