After Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu posted a statement on his X Twitter account on Sunday night rejecting claims that no advance warning had been given of a Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, and shifting responsibility for this to the Shin Bet and Military Intelligence, a great storm erupted in the political system this morning.
Following the angry reactions the prime minister received following the tweet, his office said: "During the night, after the press conference, the serious accusations that the prime minister received specific warnings about the war were reiterated, which was not the case. To this the Prime Minister responded. The prime minister is focused on leading the campaign and has full confidence in the IDF and security forces, and in their ability to achieve the goals of the war."
Netanyahu crossed a red line tonight," opposition leader MK Yair Lapid (Yesh Atid) wrote in X. "While IDF fighters and commanders are fighting valiantly against Hamas and Hezbollah, he is engaged in attempts to blame them instead of backing them. The attempts to evade responsibility and place the blame on the defense establishment weakens the IDF while it fights Israel's enemies. Netanyahu must apologize for his remarks."
