A 40-year-old Austrian is missing in Brazil. Now a lifeless person has washed up on the beach. But the identity remains unclear.
Vienna/Brasília – After the Austrian Michael L. disappeared in Brazil more than a week ago, the evidence is now increasing. A male body was discovered on the coast. But there is no certainty yet, a forensic examination should now bring clarity.
Missing man from Austria inquired about diving opportunities
The 40-year-old was last seen on October 19. There he inquired about diving opportunities in a beach bar, according to the Kleine Zeitung. The man had been warned that it was too dangerous to go into the water. According to the Kronen Zeitung, the surveillance video from the beach restaurant shows him just minutes before his disappearance.

In addition, the man's backpack was found on the beach. It is said to have contained his passport, wallet, notes and mobile phone. The investigators hoped for the data from the mobile phone and have already submitted a request to the court for evaluation. The search for the missing man is also underway on Facebook. The consulate and the Austrian embassy in Brazil are intensively searching for the Austrian and are in close contact with the authorities.
Body turned up on beach: identity still unclear
But as the Kronen Zeitung reports, a body washed up on the beach on Sunday (29 October). Even if it is suspected that it is the 40-year-old Austrian, the identity is still unclear due to the condition of the body. The body was taken to a hospital in Praia dos Açores, where the forensic examination will be carried out.
The case of Michael L. is not the only one of a missing person who disappeared while on vacation. For example, a backpacker disappeared in Gran Canaria. The case remains mysterious. The disappearance of a Munich businessman in Thailand also caused a stir.
