A refusal to comply, a driver trying to run over a policeman, a gunshot ringing out: from Guyancourt (Yvelines), on 22 October, to Montpellier (Hérault), the next day, the scenario repeats itself. Last Sunday, it was in Blanc-Mesnil (Seine-Saint-Denis), in the middle of traffic, that the chain of events took place.

According to the Actu17 website, which revealed the information, a chase between the driver of a Volkswagen Golf with a power of more than 300 horsepower and officials from the local police station began following a refusal to comply. According to our information, it occurred at the corner of Avenue Descartes — a portion of the Nationale 2 — and Védrines, near the Bourget airport compound.

Travelling at a very high rate of speed, the man behind the wheel of the Golf allegedly ran red lights and overtook vehicles while crossing solid lines, before being blocked in the flow of traffic. The police officers, who were pursuing the fleeing vehicle, then dismounted to meet its occupants.

"The IGPN has not been seized"

According to a source close to the case, it was at this moment that the driver drove off again to run towards one of the officers and that one of his colleagues responded by shooting in the direction of the hood of the Volkswagen. There were no injuries as a result of the gunshot.

The 17-year-old who refused to comply and his passenger, who was one year his junior, were immediately arrested. They are two inhabitants of Blanc-Mesnil. The first would be "well known to the police", according to Actu 17.

The two teenagers were still in custody at the Blanc-Mesnil police station on Wednesday, early afternoon, the Bobigny prosecutor's office replied, indicating to Le Parisien on Tuesday that it could not communicate "any element on the substance of the case" as it stands.

"The IGPN has not been seized," the prosecutor's office said. It is not uncommon for the General Inspectorate of the National Police to be tasked with conducting the investigation when a police officer fires his weapon on the public highway. This is the case, for example, in the Guyancourt case.
