The Kfar Saba Magistrate's Court, presided over by Judge Amit Freiz, today (Wednesday) sentenced Ilana Saporta Chania to 18 months in prison, following her conviction for extortion by threats of former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett.
In April 2022, Saporta Hania sent two letters to Bennett's family when he was prime minister, which included rifle bullets and threats to kill him and his family if he did not resign.

The verdict stated: "The courts must set a clear warning sign, before the eyes of all those who wish to cross the line between political and ideological disputes that are very worthy of clarification and criminal offenses on political and ideological grounds against public figures, on the contrary senior public figures such as prime minister, even if these are criminal offenses that in themselves are not of high severity."
Saporta Hania was also given a suspended prison sentence and a fine, and was also ordered to pay Bennett and his family compensation totaling NIS 10,000.
