The IDF announced today (Wednesday) that nine fighters had fallen in battle in the Gaza Strip, as part of Operation Iron Swords. So far, more than 300 soldiers have fallen in battle. The nine fighters, all from the Givati Brigade, were killed during a battle in the northern Gaza Strip, during which terrorists fired an anti-tank missile at the military vehicle in which they were staying.
In addition to the fallen soldiers of the Givati Brigade mentioned in the announcement, the IDF notified four other families that their loved ones had been injured in the incident.
The names of the fallen:
Lieutenant Ariel Reich, 24, from Jerusalem, a combat officer in the 77th Battalion, the 'Saar Megolan' Formation, fell in battle in the northern Gaza Strip.
Corporal Asif Luger, 21, Migor, a soldier in the 77th Battalion, the 'Saar Megolan' Brigade, fell in battle in the northern Gaza Strip.
Sergeant Adi Danan, 20, from Yavne, a squad commander in the Sabra Battalion, Givati Brigade, fell in battle in the northern Gaza Strip.
Staff Sgt. Hillel Solomon, 20, from Dimona, a soldier in the Sabra Battalion, Givati Brigade, fell in battle in the northern Gaza Strip.
Staff Sergeant Erez Mishlovsky, 20, from Oranit, a soldier in the Sabra Battalion, Givati Brigade, fell in battle in the northern Gaza Strip.
Staff Sgt. Adi Leon, 20, from Nili, a soldier in the Sabra Battalion, Givati Brigade, fell in battle in the northern Gaza Strip.
Corporal Ido Ovadia, 19, from Tel Aviv, a soldier in the Sabra Battalion, Givati Brigade, fell in battle in the northern Gaza Strip.
Corporal Lior Siminovich, 19, from Herzliya, a soldier in the Sabra Battalion, Givati Brigade, fell in battle in the northern Gaza Strip.
Staff Sergeant Roy Dawi, 20, from Jerusalem, squad commander in the Sabra Battalion, Givati Brigade, fell in battle in the northern Gaza Strip.
Yesterday, it was cleared for publication that two fighters of the Givati Patrol fell in battle against terrorists in the northern Gaza Strip as part of an "iron swords" war. The fighters, Staff Sergeant Roy Wolf, 20, from Ramat Gan, and Staff Sergeant Lavi Lifshitz, 20, from Modi'in Maccabim Reut, were killed by an anti-tank missile that hit the building where they were staying. Two other fighters in the cruiser were seriously wounded in the battle and their families were notified.
Day 26 of the operation - all updates
IDF Spokesperson Daniel Hagari said in a statement to the media yesterday that the ground maneuvers in the Gaza Strip included heavy fighting. "Our fighters at this time are fighting on the battlefield with courage and bravery," Hagari said. "There are also fierce battles in the Gaza Strip. This fighting is dangerous and we must understand that there are costs to it. We will all need resilience and spirit."
To date, the names of 315 fallen IDF soldiers who fell in Operation Iron Swords have been allowed to be published. This number includes the fighters of the alert squads in the various localities, but does not include the dozens of policemen and ISA personnel who fell in battle.
