According to Israel, Shifa Hospital serves as Hamas' command headquarters. Immediately before that, an ambulance was attacked. According to Hamas, 13 people were killed. Were they terrorists?
Tel Aviv - Israel's army says it has attacked an ambulance in the northern Gaza Strip that it claims was being used by Hamas. Several terrorists were killed, the army said on Friday. It said it had information proving that Hamas' "modus operandi is to transport terrorists and weapons in ambulances."
The Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health said the attack killed 13 people and wounded 26 others. The agency claimed that wounded people had been transported to the border crossing so that they could be treated in Egypt. Initially, the information provided by both sides could not be independently verified.
The health ministry said the attack took place in front of the entrance to Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. Israel's army said the shelled area was a "combat zone." The military had repeatedly urged civilians to flee to the south for their own safety.
According to Israel, Shifa Hospital also serves as a Hamas command center. Israeli media, citing security sources, recently reported that Hamas had concentrated around 30,000 people in the vicinity of the clinic to serve as "human shields." Dpa
