At least 10,022 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the start of the latest conflict between Israel and Hamas, according to updated data from the Gaza Health Ministry. More than 40% of those killed by Israeli bombardments (4,104 people) are children, almost a month into the war unleashed after the October 7 attack by Hamas in Israel. The Israeli army has also reported that its aircraft have launched 450 attacks on targets in Gaza in the last few hours, without easing the pressure despite calls to open humanitarian pauses to allow the entry of aid to alleviate the situation of the population of the Strip. While the army, which claims to have divided the Palestinian enclave in two and surrounded Gaza City, is acting, diplomatic pressure is mounting to even pause the bombings. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with his Turkish counterpart in Ankara and announced that in the coming days he will "significantly" increase the inflow of aid into the Strip.

The Spanish doctor evacuated from Gaza: "There are no bandages or painkillers to cure those burned in the bombings"

In the hospitals that continue to operate in Gaza, Raúl Incertis (Madrid, 41 years old) – the Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) anaesthetist evacuated from Gaza – recalled this Monday in a virtual meeting with the press, doctors and surgeons no longer have "bandages or painkillers left to cure those burned in the bombings". Because of the total blockade imposed by Israel, which prevents the entry of fuel that powers the generators of hospitals, health workers are forced not only to treat the wounded without sedation, but also to decide on the life and death of their patients.

"Doctors triage to decide which patient has the best chance of survival based on the state of their wounds and their age" when they are disconnected from machines such as ventilators or incubators, the anesthesiologist explained. In Gaza, according to MSF, there are about 25,000 wounded. "The situation in hospitals is horrific," added MSF's medical coordinator in the occupied Palestinian territories, David Cantero, so much so that, two days ago, "wounds were being disinfected with vinegar."

Incertis has witnessed the "impressive frequency" with which the Israeli army has continued to attack Gazans displaced in the southern half of the enclave. "In one night, I think on October 26-27, more than 65 percent of the deaths in the Gaza Strip occurred in the south. I wonder if they told us to go down to the south because what they are bombing is the south," the anaesthetist said.

Both Incertis and Cantero recalled that more than 300 Gazans who work for the medical organization are still in Gaza. "MSF is calling again and again for a lasting, immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza. This slaughter, this bloodbath, has to stop," said the organization's representative in Palestine, who called the Israeli military offensive "inconceivable collective punishment."

More than 60 Palestinians detained by Israeli army in West Bank, including activist Ahed Tamimi

The Israeli army on Monday arrested 66 Palestinians, including 22-year-old activist Ahed Tamimi, in a series of operations carried out in various parts of the West Bank. The arrest of the young woman took place in the city of Ramallah. Two people have been arrested along with her. Another 35 Palestinians have been arrested in Jerusalem, including an adviser to the local authorities, while eight have been detained in Nablus, in addition to eight others detained in Hebron, according to information collected by the Palestinian news agency WAFA.

Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir congratulated the army on his X account for arresting Tamimi, whom he described as a "terrorist", who "expressed sympathy and support for the Nazis on social media". (Agencies)

Von der Leyen: "Gaza cannot be a safe haven for terrorists"

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has advocated dislodging the Islamist group Hamas from control of Gaza and developing a viable economy in the Strip to prevent radicalization from growing, with the long-term prospect of a "two-state" solution, one Israeli and one Palestinian. "Gaza cannot be a safe haven for terrorists," von der Leyen told the annual conference of EU ambassadors in Brussels.

The President of the EU Executive reiterated that Israel has the right to defend itself but within international law and regretted that "the number of deaths and the suffering of civilians in Gaza is tragic", for which she announced that Brussels will allocate an additional 25 million euros in humanitarian aid to the Strip, which means a total of 100 million.

Although she avoided criticising Israel's military response, which must have the "full solidarity" of the EU "after the worst mass murder of Jews since the Holocaust", the German conservative has called on Tel Aviv to "strive to avoid civilian casualties" in its offensive against Hamas, an organisation considered terrorist by the European Union. that he is "clearly using Palestinian civilians and hostages as shields," he said.
