Former US President Barack Obama on Saturday referred to the fighting between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip and compared the massacre carried out by the terrorist organization to the Israeli occupation and the situation of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

"What Hamas did was horrific, and there is no justification for it. And what is also true is that the occupation, and what's happening to Palestinians, is unbearable"

Speaking on a recording of a popular podcast, Obama said, "If there's anything we can do, constructively, it's recognize that this is a complex, complicated issue. We will have to hold onto ideas that appear contradictory on the surface. That what Hamas did was terrible, and there is no justification for it. And what is also true is that the occupation, and what is happening to the Palestinians, is unbearable."
"There is a history of the Jewish people, which people tend to dismiss, but you can't do that if your grandparents or your uncle tell you about the madness of anti-Semitism. And what is true is that there are people who are dying now who have nothing to do with what Hamas did," the former president said.
