On Tuesday, Northern District police detained attorney Sari Hurriya, secretary of the Hadash party in his hometown of Shfar'am, on suspicion of publishing a number of inciting posts. At a hearing on the police's request to extend his detention in the Acre court, his detention was extended by two days, but his name was forbidden from publication.

Due to the clear public interest in publishing his name, the Galilee Region's Crime Fighting Unit filed an appeal against a court decision to prohibit the publication of his name. In a hearing held yesterday before Judge Avi Levy in the Haifa District Court, the judge decided to allow the prohibition, noting that "no nation in the midst of severe fighting, with existential danger hovering over its heads and soldiers, the best of our sons who fight day after day, hour after hour, behind enemy lines, in order to restore to all of us the security that is so important to our country, can tolerate discovery, encouragement, Praise or incitement of the enemy at such a time and restraint itself."

Meanwhile, at a hearing to extend his detention held today at the Acre Magistrate's Court, Sari Hurriya's detention was extended to November 12, 11 by Judge Amit Rozins, who noted in his decision that "there is no need to explain the danger posed by the possibility of opening additional arenas of violence and war, which may be caused by publications of this kind."

On behalf of the party, the secretary of Hadash in Shfar'am issued a statement in support of Horiya, claiming that he was being subjected to political persecution: "Contrary to the claims that were published, our friend Sari Khuria from Shfar'am did not express a word of solidarity with Hamas or its actions on October 7. Comrade Seri wrote the simple truth that there is no solution to the situation except by the fall of the occupation. In addition, he published a political analysis that has nothing to do with supporting Hamas."

"The arrest and indictment of Comrade Sari, based on biased translations from the West, are part of the extreme political persecution of Arab society in Israel.
Neither positions calling for an end to the war nor demonstrations calling for peace pose a danger to public order and security for all of us. What endangers Israeli society is the persecution of every critical voice and every Arab who dares to propose a position different from the one that dominates the media discourse. The persecution must be stopped now."
