Highlights: The state encouraged the employment of Palestinians, today the industry is shut down. "The trust between the renovation contractors and the Palestinian workers has been completely broken and will never exist again," says Eran Siv, chairman of the Association of Renovation Contractors. Siv: "The public is afraid, contractors are left without workers, the industry has no solutions and the state is simply throwing an entire industry out of all levels" "Without the ability to recruit working hands, it will collapse economically and bring thousands of families in Israel into bankruptcy," he adds.

"The state encouraged the employment of Palestinians and now it is throwing out the handymen without the legal ability to employ foreign workers."

Yesterday, Wednesday, a foreign workers committee was held in the Knesset, which was hosted by, among others, the chairman of the Association of Renovation Contractors, Eran Siv and other leaders of various sectors of the economy, Eran Siv, attacked the state, saying, "The state encouraged us to employ Palestinian workers on the grounds that it is in the national interest, and now it is throwing us out without the legal ability to employ foreign workers."

Siv explains and adds: "According to the procedure for employing foreign workers, clause 6.2, the state does not allow the renovation industry to employ foreign workers, but only in the real estate industry on construction sites." Siv shared with those present at the committee from the government, including Economy Minister Nir Barkat and Foreign Minister Eli Cohen, the voices of the renovation contractors from the field: "The trust between the renovation contractors and the Palestinian workers has been completely broken and will never exist again. Including the public's trust in these workers, and since the beginning of the operation, there has been a demand to stop work and lock down homes where Palestinian workers were supposed to work. Siv concluded: "The public is afraid, contractors are left without workers, the industry has no solutions and the state is simply throwing an entire industry out of all levels."

Since the beginning of the war, the management of the Association of Renovation Contractors has been struggling for the ability to accept foreign workers in direct employment and to immediately allocate at least 15,000 foreign workers to the industry, as well as to allocate training for Israeli workers immediately. An industry without working hands will not be able to renovate the thousands of homes destroyed and damaged during the war – without the ability to recruit working hands, it will collapse economically and bring thousands of families in Israel into bankruptcy.
