EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell will land in Israel on Thursday as part of an airlift of world leaders since the Simchat Torah massacre. The Foreign Ministry is making efforts to renew the arrival of European leaders here in order to extend support for Israel in the war against Hamas. So far, 45 international solidarity visits have been held in Israel by heads of state, members of Congress and parliament, including 14 heads of state – the president of the United States, the president of France, the prime minister of Britain and others.

Foreign Minister Eli Cohen is expected to welcome Borrell, as he did with 13 other foreign ministers who came from various countries last month to express support for Israel. Borrell has been at the center of Israeli criticism after comparing victims of terror in Israel to Palestinian terrorists last March. Cohen and Borrell also had a difficult conversation, but the two have since met in Brussels. This time, Borrell will arrive in Israel against the backdrop of the war in Gaza and when Israel has more than 1,200 victims of Hamas terrorism and 240 abductees.
The goal of the continuation of the airlift to Israel is to preserve the international credit given to Israel as part of the war against Hamas, despite the departures from Gaza. French President Emmanuel Macron's remarks against Israel, which he has already retracted since the weekend, signaled a possible change in the positive attitude of Western countries towards Israel, and the PR activity was sharpened in order to prevent a "revolution" in Israel's hourglass derived from international support.
