Highlights: After judge's objection, IPS commissioner instructed to hold hearings on the background of the state emblem. This follows the high-profile incident last week, when the detention judge on duty, Itai Harmelin, demanded that a representative of the Nachshon Unit in the courtroom remove a caption from the visual designation screen. As a result, the IPS representative canceled the caption that appeared on the screen. The court insisted that the name of the participant should appear in theName of the detention center, in order to maintain the routine.

As part of an assessment of the situation held this morning by the IPS Commissioner, Cpl. Kathy Perry, the Commissioner instructed that all legal hearings conducted through the video conference system should continue to take place against the background of state symbols and the Israeli flag, along with the name of the unit from which the actual hearing is taking place.

This follows the high-profile incident last week, when the detention hall of the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court was surprised when the detention judge on duty, Itai Harmelin, demanded that a representative of the Nachshon Unit in the courtroom remove a caption from the visual designation screen, which read: "IDF will win."

The detention hearings are almost the only hearings held in the various courtrooms during this period, and most of them are conducted visually. Judge Harmelin demanded that three similar captions be removed and told the IPS officer that if these captions did not stop, he would stop the hearings and even file a complaint. As a result, the IPS representative canceled the caption that appeared on the screen.

The court administration said in response: "At the beginning of the day of the hearings, various captions appeared on the visual conference screen, instead of the name of the participant, which is usually the name of the detention center. The court insisted that the name of the participant should appear in the name of the detention center, in order to maintain the routine of the hearings as is customary."

Today, as stated, the IPS commissioner intervened in the matter and instructed that all discussions take place against the background of state symbols and the Israeli flag, along with the name of the unit from which the hearing is taking place.
