US President Joe Biden said on Tuesday that he believes a deal to free hostages will be implemented soon.
At a White House briefing, he told families, "Hang on, they're coming." At the same time, Biden's envoy to the Middle East, Brett McGurk, will arrive in the region to discuss, among other things, the issue of releasing the hostages, as well as "Israel's security needs and preventing harm to civilians during the fighting," according to the statement.
The statement comes amid numerous reports in recent days of an impending deal. According to the outline under discussion, a humanitarian pause of several days will come into effect and security prisoners will be released. In return, Hamas will release several dozen abductees.
Immediately afterwards, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: "Our hearts are always with the abductees and their families. Since the beginning of the war, we have been working relentlessly to free our abductees, including increasing pressure since the beginning of the ground maneuvers. If and when there is something concrete to report, we will do it."
