Le Figaro Nice
The message from the prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes published on Tuesday morning, a little before 10 a.m., on X (ex-Twitter) could not be clearer: "We will not leave this district in the hands of delinquents." The district to which Hugues Moutouh refers is that of Les Moulins. It was in this sensitive city in the west of Nice that a shooting broke out in the early morning, around 9:30 a.m. At least three gunshots were heard, including by a national police patrol positioned in the area as part of a security mission.
Immediately, according to the principle of action and reaction, a vast police operation was launched to seal off the neighborhood and try to arrest the perpetrators, or even the perpetrators, of the shooting. A man, "matching the report that was reported to us", was quickly apprehended, a well-informed source confirmed to Le Figaro. In addition, an assault rifle-type long gun and bullets were found under a car. This is likely the weapon used in the shooting. No one was injured, except for one man who, frightened by the sound of the bullets, fell while trying to flee and scraped his knee.
Other shootings
An investigation has been opened by the Nice prosecutor's office. While the circumstances of the incident remain unclear at this stage, it is likely that this new incident is linked to the drug trafficking that has plagued the neighborhood for several years. In recent months, other similar shootings have broken out in Les Moulins, causing former prefect Bernard Gonzalez to fear a "Marseillaise-style drift".
On 8 September, two men in their twenties were seriously wounded by gunfire. Hospitalized, one of them managed to flee on foot from the Pasteur Hospital, notably by shoving a police officer.
